Summer 2012

Anita & John Sills

Dear Ysanne and Peter

Really enjoyed helping with the Festival on Friday night. Thank you for letting us participate, and for all your hard work in organising it all.
Very best wishes.

Mike Williams

Hello, I am sure you will receive a 'thank you' from the Hospice, meanwhile let me write a personal note to say how glad I volunteered to give up a part of Saturday to have my eyes opened to the amazing 'family' of friends you have and the wonderful work you do at ABF.

Your website is smart, your programme is professional, your presentation time yesterday was a delightful mix of 'parish pump' and 'swift and to the point', and clearly you relish the hard work of raising the next £7k to reach this amazing sum of £100k.

May your energy and motivation continue for the benefit of both beer enthusiasts and the charities.  With pleasure.....Mike Williams

Tony Gartland, Head Brewer - Saltaire Brewery

Many thanks for the award for our Triple Chocoholic and I am glad it went down so well at the Festival.  It is always great to get a certificate and it is much appreciated by the team in the Brewery.

Wish you every success in the future with your Festivals!

John Palmer

Hi Folks, my son-in-law and myself both enjoyed the festival very much. We thought the beer selection was great and the layout and facilities were excellent, in fact a perfect 4 hours on a Saturday. well done to everyone concerned and we look forward to coming again. I moved back from Devon about a year ago and I was a regular festival goer in the west country. If you have not already been I recommend the festival at the Maltings in Newton Abott, makes a nice spring break.
Once again thanks for everything.

Sue Hall

Well done for organising such a successful event. I enjoyed serving and getting chatted up by all those lovely men

Hi Ysanne (and Peter)
Just wanted to say well done for putting together another superb ABF. New venue much better, great volunteers, and food terrific.
The band love playing at the festival as the vibe is always so friendly, so thanks also for having us back once more.
All the best
Gareth (and the rest of the band)

Hello Guys, Just wanna say Thank you for having me again. It's always amazing to see people from all walks of life; boys and girls, men and women. all age groups working that hard to give the community something. Every one of you did a fantastic job from organising the event to serving guests. It's an honour being a small part of this event. I will do my very best to be with you guys again in Summer. PS The figures are really impressive. Well done to all of you and thanks again Ysanne Legg and Peter

Congratulation on such a successful beer festival. I have attended the Saturday lunchtime session for many years and have always enjoyed the previous venue at the Malting's and to tell you the truth I was a bit concerned about the move to Alton College but they were quickly alleviated when I got there. The venue is bigger (inside and out), brighter, more beers and a good selection of food, I very much enjoyed it. The Malting's loss and the colleges gain and ours too.

The online ticket sales are very good along with being able to buy beer tickets in advance, a great idea. The only minor comment I will feed back is the %ABV was not marked on the barrels but away on a board to the side, as I am one of the folk whom choose beers at random around 4%, it makes my life easier after a few beers. Anyway well done again, overall very much better.

.......And last night really marked the ultimate housewarming for my UK life: the Alton Beer Festival.   Mama, I’m home. The eagle has landed. Aunty Em! Aunty Em! Manamana.

Yes, these are the things that went through my head most of last night along with “This one’s my favourite. No… THIS one’s my favourite. No…. THIS ONE IS MY FAVOURITE!!!!”

I was firmly planning on having a bit of every beer at the festival. Ambitious? ..somehow I got through 16 tastings. And they were glorious! We were supposed to vote.....but I totally failed to use my ballot.

Instead, here’s a recap of my personal front runners:...............read the blog

Overall champion? I actually couldn’t choose from amongst the beers, because there was a cider that just blew me away (sshhhh- don’t tell)..............

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who put on the Alton Beer Festival- not only for assembling an amazing line up of totally awesome beers, but also for being the best damn bartenders I’ve ever met

Robert Hudd @Huddysnax

@AltonBeerFest Yeah, think Friday demand will be higher next time! The food was awesome btw. Loved O'Connors stall (though a bit chilly)!

Ben Woodward @Th3_Firestarter

Had a fantastic time last night @AltonBeerFest it was my first time :) And if Anna is reading this (you know who you are) tweet me

2 Guys travelled from Salisbury on Sat.

They had tweeted but no tickets available! Got themselves a room, and were at the festival for 6PM, met someone that had 2 tickets to spare, paid up and gained entry, how committed is that to being at the Alton Beer Festival.

Met the FDC - Friday Night Drinking Club

They had customised their glasses, true Blue Peter style, enjoyed a FEW beers and were entertained by the Gully Gully Man.  Hopefully we’ll get a picture of their glasses - see our blog for the Gully Gully Man at work, sorry the video was too X rated to host!!

Met a chap from Wales down for the festival!!

Mike @M_Paraplanner

Feel rather special after 9 ciders @AltonBeerFest

Michael Heatley @MichaelHeatley

@AltonBeerFest had a fab time playing for you last night with the Beat Route boys. Hope today goes just as well in your great new venue.

Sandy Bates,

My thanks to everybody involved on behalf of myself and the 13 friends who also attended. Excellent venue with friendly staff, good selection of beers and above all the pipers and the main band providing the music all combined to make it the best yet. Well done everybody.

Caroline Charlton, The Havant Brewery

Congratulations on an excellent beer festival. We had a good afternoon and it was good to see so many people for an afternoon session.

Jerry

Excellent, thank you. Another SUPERB festival well done! I'm full of admiration and praise for your excellent organisation and commitment. I am sure that everyone had a good time, and helped raise yet more funds bravo. Jerry

Mike and I

Just the quickest of emails to say what a great event the festival was, Mike and I were very pleased to have secured tickets and enjoyed the dozen or so beers we managed to sample while we were there. I hope there wasn’t too much clearing up to do, we were away before the end of the evening but guess that the carpet took a hammering. Thanks again for your help with the tickets and for organising such an excellent event, we will be at the next for sure.
